Turkey has just exceeded 82 million inhabitants. Its population continues to grow strongly, with even an acceleration in 2018 (+ 1.47%) compared to the previous year (+1.25% in 2017). Major cities are the most dynamic, the most important of which is Istanbul, which exceeds 15 million inhabitants. The capital, Ankara, is also growing, to more than 5.5 million inhabitants.
The southeastern regions, where a large number of Syrian refugees are concentrated, are also very dynamic in terms of demography, and increase the country’s population growth rate.
The population is expected to exceed 100 million in 2040.
