The International Francophonie Day is a worldwide celebration of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) taking place on March 20th of each year. The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie brings together 84 member and associate countries and territories.

Francophonie

There are approximately 520 million French speakers worldwide, including more than 300 million whose mother tongue is. There are more than one billion inhabitants in the different French-speaking countries. French is therefore one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.

These figures are expected to grow rapidly in the coming decades, particularly because Francophone Africa is seeing its population increase at an unprecedented rate. Already, the most populous French-speaking country is no longer France, but the Democratic Republic of Congo.
